BIOGRAPHY

John Swift is a Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Cumbria. His publications include The Palgrave Concise Historical Atlas of the Cold War (2003) and Labour in Crisis: Clement Attlee and the Labour Party in Opposition 1931–40 (2001). He is also a contributor to 1001 Battles That Changed the Course of History, where earlier versions of his contributions to Britannica first appeared.
