Drammen, city, southeastern Norway. Located at the junction of the Drams River with Drams Fjord, southwest of Oslo, the site was first settled in the 13th century as two separate communities, Bragernes and Strømsøy. Each was granted common town privileges in 1715. In 1811 they merged with Tangen to form the present city. Drammen is a seaport and a railroad terminus; its manufactures include wood products, plastics, abrasives, textiles, leather goods, and beer. Granite is quarried nearby. Pop. (2007 est.) mun., 58,730.
