Gennevilliers, town, a northwestern industrial suburb of Paris, in Hauts-de-Seine département, Île-de-France région, north-central France. Although of declining importance, manufacturing still takes place in Gennevilliers, including the production of components for the automobile and aeronautical industries, metal products, chemicals, and electronics. Industry initially developed there because of the prominence of the town’s river port, which has remained one of the main port zones of the Paris region, specializing in container traffic. Warehousing and transport services are important related activities. Pop. (1999) 42,513; (2014 est.) 43,376.
