Angelina Jolie, orig. Angelina Jolie Voight, (born June 4, 1975, Los Angeles, Calif., U.S.), U.S. actress, director, and screenwriter. Jolie, who was the daughter of actor Jon Voight, first garnered attention for the television movies George Wallace (1997) and Gia (1998). After Girl, Interrupted (1999, Academy Award), she starred in a series of action films, notably Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000), two Lara Croft movies (2001, 2003), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), and Wanted (2008). Her other credits included the dramas The Good Shepherd (2006), A Mighty Heart (2007), and Changeling (2008) and the fantasy adventure Maleficent (2014) and its 2019 sequel. In 2011 she made her directorial and screenwriting debut with In the Land of Blood and Honey. She later wrote, directed, and starred in By the Sea (2015). Jolie was also noted for her humanitarian work, and her personal life was often fodder for the tabloids. She had a long relationship with Brad Pitt, and the couple had several children, some of whom were adopted from a variety of countries.
