Except in the Arabic world, there was little activity in logic between the time of Boethius and the 12th century. Certainly Byzantium produced nothing of note. In Latin Europe there were a few authors, including Alcuin of York (c. 730–804) and Garland the Computist (flourished c. 1040). But it was not until late in the 11th century that serious interest in logic revived. St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033–1109) discussed semantical questions in his De grammatico and investigated the notions of possibility and necessity in surviving fragments, but these texts did not have much influence.
